I was contemplating to write a post on Sadhana, the beautiful and talented actress of 60’s era,who was a part of many blockbusters including Asli Naqli,Hum Dono and great films like Mere Mehboob. Thanks to harveypam ,inspiration  caught my fancy and I finally got down to write this post. Here are of the songs which were picturised on her which are favorite of mine which I want to share with you.

Love In Simla – Ae Baby Ae Jee Idhar Aao—- It was her first film as a newcomer,in spite of which she gave a dazzling performance. She gets a makeover the famous “fringe cut” from her grandma in order to win the affection of dashing Joy Mukerjee to win a bet.She looks spellbinding and has an infectious smile. In this song she makes Joy  obey her beck and call. She looks playful and naughty yet innocent.

Aap Yun Hi Agar Humse Milte Rahe- Ek Musafir Ek Haseena— Her second film with Joy,she looks more beautiful and charming. She is a young girl who is deserted by her husband on the eve of her wedding due to insurgency.  Here she meets a armyman -Joy Mukerjee who loses his memory in saving her from the insurgents. In this song she flirts along with Joy to help him getting his memory back. She indeed looks fascinating and gamine enough to get someone smitten with love be it a dashing gentleman like Joy.

Mere Mehboob(1963)-Mere Mehboob Tujhe Meri Mohabbat ki Qasam— Mere Mehboob is a movie which could only be described as a lyrical poetry. Be it songs or performances;everything is superb. Romance is depicted in an innocent and pure form devoid of any obscenity. Sadhana plays Husna a beautiful lady from a Nawab family who is deeply in love with Anwar (Rajendra Kumar). Here she sings the composition of Rajendra Kumar, whom she met in her university. She is desperately searching him and pining in love;which is evident in her tears.

Aaya Hai Se Pee Ke-Manmauji—- Sadhana  plays  a vegetable seller who is trying to save her love interest, Kishore Kumar who is convicted of a murder committed by Jaggi(Pran),a local goon. She tries to coax him to confess his guilt by dancing and playing along with him. She looks much beautiful without her trademark “fringe” in this song.

Ab aur na kuch bhi yaad raha- Prem Patra (1962)- A Bimal Roy classic, which is an intense drama of emotions of love and hatred in which love reigns supreme. Sadhana plays Kavita Kapoor,a medical student who has some misunderstanding with Arun(Shashi Kapoor);which changes his attitude towards her.In this song she expresses feelings of love and bliss amidst nature.

Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahan Jaiyega – Arzoo— Sadhna is in her prime of beauty and elegance in this movie, which is  one of her best performances. She sings to her love Sarju(Rajendra Kumar) with  her aunt on the piano. Her eyes simply do the talking…….

Nainonwali ne –Mera Saaya — Mera Saaya(1966) is the masterpiece by Raj Khosla in which Sadhana overshadows everyone with her superb performance. She is at her best in matter of performance and evokes sympathy from the audience as a woman whose identity is in question.Court-room scenes are so emotional and      touching that one could not resist tears. In this song, her husband has a flashback in which he remembers sweet time spent with her.She is vivacious and lively in this song and also plays air guitar. The song is a cheery one that makes one smile.

Yeh Parda Hata Do-Ek Phool Do mali [1969]— In this love story,Sadhana plays a ingenuous village damsel who loses her heart to a young and dashing Sanjay Khan. There is sweetness and mischief coupled with love in this song in which they tease each other and she even warns him  that if he does not resist he will be “chastised” by her mother. The song is picturised in a picturesque apple garden.

Ham tumhare liye-Intaquam (1969)– It is the home production movie of Sadhana in which she portrays a strong women determined to take revenge from a rich businessman who had done her wrong in the past. In order to further her plan she pretends to love his son played by Sanjay Khan and marries him. She and Sanjay make a lovely screen couple and have a  great chemistry.

Mujhe Teri Mohabbat Ka Sahara- Aap Aye Bahar Ayee(1971)— It is a film about strong ties of  true love which does not care if the beloved has any stigma attached to his or her past life.In this film,Sadhana plays beautiful Neena;who is engaged to Rohit(Rajendra Kumar). But unfortunately she is molested by Kumar (Prem Chopra).Feeling unworthy of Rohit, she deplores her fate;hence this song takes place. The song is emotional and heart-wrenching. Rajendra and Sadhana are perfect in their rendition of lovers struck by fate.It is a song which lingers in the memory for a long time.

And the list of songs filmed on this elegant actress is quite large,a few of which I have shared with you.May god bless her with health and prosperity. And at last I again thank harveypam for providing me inspiration on write a post on one of my favorite actresses.

Coolone! What a splendid post indeed!
I feel honoured that my post on Sadhana served as an inspiration. So the blog does serve some purpose.
The songs you have chosen are all lovely in their own style.
I particularly liked the ones from Manmauji and Prem Patra, mostly because they are not usually in my hearing radius.
aap yunhi agar hamse milte rahe is such an enchanting song! Love it! There is not a single note out of place in it!

ninowali ne is quite an unusual song, isn’t it? She singing a song thinking what he would say. Lovely! The whole score of Mera Saayaa is beautiful. Very difficult to choose one fav one!
Just like it is hard to choose one song from Parakh!

All the same when I think of Sadhana, the first song that comes to my mind is o sajana barkha bahaar aayi from Parakh.

Thank you again for this beautifful post coolone!

Thank you for appreciation…… (Bahut shukriya!) 🙂 .Parakh is also one of my fave movies in which Sadhana looks beautiful without her make-up and she proves her worth as an actress capable of doing any character given to her.One of my faves from Parakh is this “Jhumka” song………….

Mera Saaya has indeed one of the most melodious scores of all times and the songs are quite haunting especially the title song……..

Thank you once again for your kind and encouraging words.

      🙂
