Goonj Uthi Shehnai (1959)—-“Jeewan Mein Piya Tera Saath Rahe”-A tragedy film directed by Vijay Bhatt ,it starred Rajendra Kumar opposite Ameeta, who later worked with him in Mere Mehboob. The superb score of the film is rendered by Vasant Desai.
Arzoo “-Aye Phoolon Ki Rani”—- It stars Sadhana, Rajendra Kumar, and Feroz Khan in the lead roles, which was directed by Ramanand Sagar. It was a huge blockbuster of the 60’s. In this song the hero praises the beauty of his beloved by bestowing upon her titles such as queen of spring and flowers. He also showers her profusely with epithets, which makes any lady blush with pride.
Mera Pyaar Bhi Tu Hai – Saathi(1968)—-In this film Rajendra stars opposite Vyjayanthimala. This film is an emotional melodrama showing the up and downs in the life of a married couple. The film also stars Simi Grewal in a supporting role.Sanjeev Kumar also has a cameo in it.In this song, the couple asserts their unconditional love towards each other. The song is sung by Mukesh and Suman Kalyanpur and the music is by Naushad.
Suraj- “Kaise Samjhaoon Badi Na Samajh Ho”—- It is a fantasy film filled with romance and adventure. It again stars the hit pair of Rajendra Kumar and Vyjayanthimala. Mumtaz has a brief role in it as the companion of Vyjayanthimala. The song is a type of ‘jugalbandi’ between the two.The song is melodious and based upon classical music.
Aap Aaye Bahaar Aayi (1971) – “Pooche Jo Mujhse Koi” —– This film stars the lead pair of Rajendra Kumar and Sadhna after the success of Arzoo. It is a playful and mischievous song in which he teases the charming Sadhana and thus annoys her.He likens her features with the spring and other aspects of nature. It is a nice song sung by Mohd.Rafi and the beautiful lyrics are by Anand Bakshi.

Lovely post with great songs! Rajendra Kumar had great songs in his movies, and my personal favorite songs are Yeh mera prem patra … from Sangam:
and Baharon phool barsao … from Suraj
and of course, Mere mehboob tujhe … from Mere Mehboob:
Thanks 🙂 The songs you have mentioned are also my favorites especially “Baharon phool barsao” and the title song of Mere Mehboob.Rajendra Kumar+Mohammed Rafi’s ethereal voice created magic when combined together. The effect is indeed spellbinding!
you are absolutely right.both songs are beyond comparison.all time greatest songs.real master pieces.
While I don’t much care for Rajendra Kumar (except in Mere Mehboob and Kanoon), I do think he acted in some movies with great music. Of the songs you’ve selected, I like Jeevan mein piya tera saath rahe and Yaad na jaaye. Other favourites include Mer mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam (which Lalitha has already mentioned), and these three:
Kaun hai jo sapnon mein aaya:
O sanam tere ho gaye hum:
And Ae nargis-e-mastaana:
‘Ae nargis-e-mastaana‘ is my favorite as well as ‘O sanam tere ho gaye hum‘.However “Kaun hai jo sapnon mein aaya” reminds me of this———
🙂
LOL! I’d forgotten about that, though now that I’m listening to it again, I remember someone had mentioned it to me. 😀
🙂
aarzoo is a musical classics.real gems by the great shankar jaikishan.all songs are very well picturised. the great movie.
I have to admit Rajendra Kumar is not one of my fav male leading actors. But nevertheless he had some good songs filmed on him
There are some good songs in your list there!
My favourite Rajendra Kumar song is yeh mera prem patra padh kar from Sangam
Another song, which I like of his is husn wale tera jawaab nahin from Gharana
Another one of his lesser known songs is pehle mile sapnon me from zindagi
“Husn wale tera jawaab nahin” is such a beautiful song as well as “Pehle mile sapnon me”.Rajendra Kumar always seems to shower compliments on the beauty of his heroines and make them blush profusely ! 🙂
My favorite song from Zindagi is “Hum Ne Jafa Na Seekhi”……………………..
Good picturisation!
Good song!
🙂
By the way. I also like this relatively little-known song of his, from Khazanchi:
And this absolutely gorgeous song from Zindagi aur Khwab:
What a beautiful song from ‘Khazanchi‘.I have never heard it before. Thanks for including it! Manna Dey giving playback for Rajendra in Zindagi aur Khwab. Just superb!!! It is indeed a gorgeous song.
[…] Rajendra Kumar- The Jubilee King (coolone160.wordpress.com) […]
As rightly observed, some of the films of Rajendra Kumar may not be great films, but, by and large, songs from those films (e.g. Aas Ka Panchhi, Humrahi) certainly merited attention.
It would be a good idea to look for a set of niche songs for such profusely discussed actors or singers – Like Rajendra Kumar’s other than Mohammad Rafi or Shanker Jaikishan Songs or Dilip Kumar’s Othe Naushad Songs.
Very true, some other songs from his lesser known film certainly merit attention, such as this song from Hamrahi(1963) sung by Mohd.Rafi and Mubarak Begum
“Mujh Ko Apne Gale Laga”
and a song sung by Manna dey for Rajendra Kumar(quite rare occurrence) from Khazanchi “Na jaane Kahan” as mentioned above by Dustedoff.
🙂
Here is one great Manna Dey song from film Zindagi
Muskura Laadle Muskura – http://youtu.be/RvI0IqwoYQA
And a couple of more songs where Rajendra Kumar has lip- synched songs to other playback singers:
Dil Mera Ek Aas Ka Panchhi – Subr Sen – http://youtu.be/Jc17y86NbPY
Dhadakane Lagi Dil Ke Taaron Ki Duniya – Dhool Ka Phool – http://youtu.be/6Lfk2VowdYI
Thank you for providing links to some of the great songs picturised on Rajendra Kumar
🙂
“Dil Mera Ek Aas Ka Panchhi” from Aas Ka Panchhi is also a fav song of mine,I had it in mind while writing this post, but somehow it slipped my memory.Thank you for including it!

greatest actor of india
Rajendra Kumar was one of the great actors whose magnetic personality pleasantly filled the movie screen. He was the most romantic hero of his time . His roles were such that every mother wanted a son like him, every sister wanted a brother like him, every wife yearned to have a husband like him, and every father wished to have a son like him, so on and so forth ! For some unknown reasons, he was jealously ignored by his peers and the critics and biasly underrated by him as an actor. Despite his great performances in some of his movies, he did not receive proper recognition he deserved by his peers. But he did get lots of love from from people of India, for his movies were so successful, especially in the 1960s.
