James Bond is one of the most favorite onscreen spies of all time. There are quite a few actors who have essayed him on silver screen. Among most notable of them are Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan, just to name a few. Some of my favorites are –
Sean Connery– He played the character in the first five Bond films: Dr. No (1962), (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), and You Only Live Twice (1967) – then appeared again as Bond in Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Never Say Never Again (1983). All seven films were commercially successful. He had the charisma, physical grace and presence for the action. He had a great physique (muscular, 6′ 2″).He was truly an embodiment of MI6 agent 007, on the screen.
Roger Moore– Moore is the longest-serving James Bond actor, having spent twelve years in the role (from his debut in 1973, to his retirement from the role in 1985), and having made seven official films in a row. Moore is the oldest actor to have played Bond – he was 45 in Live and Let Die (1973), and 58 when he announced his retirement on 3 December 1985. In 2004 Moore was voted ‘Best Bond’ in an Academy Awards poll, and he won with 62% of votes in another poll in 2008. He had the charm, suavity and chivalrousness of a British undercover 007.He was also adept in delivering deadpan humor(Bond style) 😉 .His best portrayal of Bond was in For Your Eyes Only (1981) as MI6 agent, who is sent to retrieve a stolen “ATAC” system that could be misused for controlling British military submarines. For Your Eyes Only was the fifth stint for Moore as Bond. He was supported by Carole Bouquet as the Bond girl Melina Havelock . A View to a Kill (1985) was seventh and last to star Roger Moore as the fictional MI6 agent.
Timothy Dalton– Dalton has played James Bond in The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989). Dalton’s first appearance as 007, The Living Daylights (1987) was critically successful, and grossed more than the previous two Bond films with Moore. He was classy and more warm than other Bonds and looked more humane;but he did not lack the charm and suavity of his predecessors.
Pierce Brosnan– Pierce Brosnan was the best find ever for James Bond. He became the fifth actor to portray James Bond ; starring in four films between 1995 and 2002.He was indeed charming, appealing and debonair of all the Bonds who appeared on-screen. Who can forget Golden Eye (1995) is the seventeenth spy film in the James Bond series, and the first to star Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Die Another Day(2002) was the twentieth spy film in the James Bond series, and the fourth and last film to star Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. It also starred Madonna in a cameo.
Daniel Craig– Daniel Craig is playing James Bond, since 2006. The 5-foot-10-inch (178 cm) blond Craig, unlike previous actors, was not considered by the Bond enthusiasts to fit the tall, dark, attractive image of Bond to which viewers had been accustomed. His first film as Bond Casino Royale, premiered on 14 November 2006 and was the highest grossing Bond film to date. After the film was released, Craig’s performance was highly praised. He shows the dark side of Bond, which was unknown till date. Craig describes his portrayal of Bond as an anti-hero. Sean Connery opined on Craig’s casting as Bond, whom he described as “fantastic, marvelous in the part.” Lastest of his films is Skyfall.(http://themoviebros.com/2012/11/13/skyfall/)
